Copyright is how people protect the things they create from being used by others, and those who wish to use their work need to give properly cite where their work came from. While copyright is meant to keep people from using others work, there are fair use guidelines which allows for material to be used for educational purposes. But there are limits on how much of the work should be used and how it is being used, because it is still copyrighted material. To try and teach the idea of both copyright and fair use, I would have all of my information used such as in PowerPoints cited as the work appears to give examples of how fair use is used. Also, having students cite sources they use when doing assignments is good practice because it allows them to learn about these two concepts while also giving credit to the copyrighted material. Even young students can do this, such as if they are writing a summary or explaining parts of books, they can use correct citations in order to give proper credit to the creator of the materials.
Depending on the grade level I would be teaching I think a good way to prevent academic dishonesty would be to have students submit assignments online. I lot of website such as Canvas have programs built into them that allow for teachers to check for work that is too similar to work that already exist. But I think for younger students just explaining what academic dishonesty is before having them complete paper assignments would be enough for them to not do it. Also setting consequences for academic dishonestly such as being caught with the same homework answers as someone else can help prevent students from trying to do it in the first place. Another technology implementation issue is cyberbullying, and the way I would go about solving this in my classroom would be having privacy settings on the technology. There is no reason for students to have access to websites that allow them to communicate with others online, so by restricting access to this I think can help prevent this issue.
One new skill I acquired from the newsletter design assignment is the ability to create two columns on Microsoft Word. This is something I never learned to do on Word, but after having to use it, I can now do it for other assignments. Overall, I think my newsletter could be more appealing with its appearance, my newsletter was kind of plain which is does not draw in the attention of readers. Even though I may not being writing newsletters in my future career, I think the new things I learned about in Microsoft Word will be very helpful. I do think in my future career that I will have certain documents that I will need to hand out, so being able to create these documents using similar techniques is going to be very helpful.
