So far, I have used Twitter to interact with some of the education accounts that we are following for this class. Twitter is a hard app to navigate, I am used to using Instagram and TikTok mostly so the way the feed is organized is kind of confusing. It was especially confusing for the assignment that involved posting as part of a chat. I really struggled to find the original questions that people were responding to. Overall, I do not think Twitter will be very helpful in my future career because it is hard to use, and I think there are other sites that would be more helpful. I think Facebook is easier to use to find groups, and I think groups are one of the best ways to make connections for a future career and in a future career.
One of the ways that students are effected by the digital divide in education is that the student with less technology may struggle more in the workforce or college, since they are not as comfortable with the technology. Some of the causes of the digital divide mostly due to finances, but location also plays a role. When I am teaching in the future, I think I need to be very aware of the digital divide. Their may be some students with little to no access to the internet or a computer, keeping this in mind, I would probably send a survey home to see what their technology is like. I still think regardless of technology, paper homework such as worksheets or textbook pages are more helpful than using technology because I am planning on teaching younger children. But, I do think using technology is very important so visiting a computer lab as often as possible to do activities would be really helpful to the students.
I think academic software that I would use in my classroom would be Canvas and Microsoft Word. Canvas is an academic software that we use in colleges, but it can be helpful for tracking grades and being able to post extra things such as PowerPoints. If a student is absent they can still access the materials they need, and they can also use it to send messages to me. Microsoft Word is an extremely important academic software because it is a word processing software, that can be used for academic and work purposes. Using and understanding Microsoft Word is so important for students future careers and even for personal use.
