Blog Journal 10

Something I learned from PowerPoint assignment 5 is how to use action buttons on PowerPoint. Before this class I assumed PowerPoints always moved in their sequence, but now I know they can move based on the buttons pushed instead. This assignment overall was very helpful because it is a skill on PowerPoint that I can use to make many different things, even not for teaching specifically. The only thing I did not like about this assignment is having to make so many slides. I think 25 slides was a lot of slides, and the skills could have been learned with just making a 15 slide PowerPoint. If the assignment was 15 slides it would have been easier to complete while still getting all the skills being used. Below is a screenshot of my PowerPoint Assignment 5.

As a teacher data collection tools can help see how students are progressing. One way to use this would be for teaching 2nd grade and using small surveys or assignments to check how students are progressing. So for example giving the students surveys and asking about how they are understanding a concept such as math can be very helpful. Such as giving them a survey and asking 1-3 how well do you think you know this concept. This allows for a me to collect data on how both the student is doing and also the class as a whole because I can compare the data I collected for each student, and then go over concepts again based on the weaker spots,

I think one great way to do collaboration in an online course is using zoom. Although it can be hard to do if lots of different time zones are being taken into account. If it is an all online course that actually meets on zoom taking and putting people into breakout rooms is a great way to have collaboration within an online course. If the course is only online, like this course, collaboration is a bit harder but I think a great way to start is by having students share their emails and phone numbers to then be able to decide from their how they are going to go about completing assignments. But facilitating the exchange of information using Canvas is a great way to get collaboration started, without having to assign time and groups to have virtual or physical meetings.

A technology skill I would like to learn is how to use Excel to create ways to store data. This would be a helpful skill for seeing progress of students. You can see how students are progressing throughout the year, and using this tool specifically allows for actual calculations to be done especially if it is set up correctly. I think a way to achieve this would be practicing using it and making examples. The more I use and understand how to use Excel, the more useful it is for me as future teacher to be able to use that resource.
